Argentina Departmental Officials

The countries of Central and South America are a very rich field for philatelic study and give an insight into a part of the world that many of us are not particularly familiar with. As well as the regular postage issues there are many fascinating and unusual revenue stamps.

Bridging the gap slightly are the departmental officials of Argentina, all fully listed in Gibbons and, for the 1913-1938 issues, even get their own special section within the SG South America catalogue. Stamps were issued for eight different departments - MA, Ministry of Agriculture; MG, Ministry of War; MH, Ministry of Finance; MI, Ministry of the Interior; MJI, Ministry of Justice and Instruction; MM, Ministry of Marine; MOP, Ministry of Public Works and MRC, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Religion.

Most of these issues are inexpensive but very rarely seen! I have a nice collection of these, with multiple copies of many of the stamps. The SG listing is basic, a quick look at the stamps show lots of variety both in the perforation types and the settings of the overprints.
